The final was much closer than many people expected it to be, with all four players winning two sets. In fact, the only break of serve in the entire match came in the very first game, which also happened to be the deciding set. Krejcikova and Siniakova started well, forcing a break point but couldn’t take it. They then managed to hold their own service games before hitting back at Suárez Navarro and Shvedova in turn. However, they couldn’t keep up with their opponents who went on to take the set in just 26 minutes.
The second set followed a similar pattern with both teams trading breaks throughout. However, this time it was Suárez Navarro and Shvedova who came out on top thanks to some strong play from their opponents. The Czech duo dominated throughout the tournament, dropping only one set en route to the final. Their opponent in the final, Zhang and Shuai, were unable to mount a serious challenge against Krejcikova and Siniakova. This was Krejcikova’s fourth Women’s Singles title at the Australian Open (2008, 2010, 2012, 2017), while Siniakova is making her first appearance at the Australian Open Women’s Doubles Final.
